Job Title: Chief Buying Officer (CBO)

Position Summary:
The Chief Buying Officer will be responsible for overseeing the entire buying process for the fabric division, including sourcing, purchasing, and managing vendor relationships. You will lead the buying team, develop and implement purchasing strategies, and ensure the timely acquisition of high-quality fabrics at competitive prices. This is a senior leadership role that requires an expert in sourcing, negotiation, and inventory management, along with a keen understanding of the fabric market.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute the fabric division’s buying strategy to ensure the right assortment of fabrics is available for sale at the right time and price.
Lead the fabric buying team, ensuring effective management of sourcing, purchasing, and inventory processes.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key fabric suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers.
Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to secure favorable terms and high-quality fabrics.
Analyze market trends and consumer demand to adjust buying strategies and ensure competitive pricing.
Manage product assortments and inventory levels to meet customer needs while minimizing excess stock.
Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to understand customer preferences and adjust product offerings accordingly.
Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical sourcing practices, and sustainability goals.
Forecast fabric needs and work closely with the logistics and supply chain teams to ensure timely deliveries and product availability.
Report on buying performance, margins, and other key metrics to senior leadership.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Textiles, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
10+ years of experience in fabric buying, sourcing, or product procurement, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Strong experience in the wholesale merchandising or textile industry, particularly in fabric sourcing and supply chain management.
Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills with suppliers and internal teams.
In-depth knowledge of fabric materials, trends, and manufacturing processes.
Proven ability to develop and implement strategic buying and purchasing plans that drive profitability and business growth.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency with buying tools and inventory management software.
Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of buyers and support staff.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field.
Experience with sustainable sourcing and environmentally-friendly fabric initiatives.
Familiarity with international sourcing and import/export regulations.
Knowledge of product lifecycle management and retail trends.
